Fire District 1 "rolls in" new fire engine at Mariner Station 11

Post Date:01/27/2017 3:18 PM
engine 11 roll inSnohomish County Fire District 1 recently welcomed its newest fire engine to Mariner Fire Station 11 in unincorporated south Everett with a rolling-in ceremony.

The rolling-in ceremony is a fire service tradition dating back to the 1830s. Part of the ceremony includes having firefighters push the new engine into the firehouse, a custom from the days of horse-drawn equipment, which could not be easily backed into the station by the horses.

Sporting Fire District 1’s red and black color scheme, the new engine includes features to improve safety and fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. Other design features improve ergonomics and visibility within the cab and pump panel to make it easier for firefighters to do their job.

The new engine cost $540,000. Funding came from Fire District 1’s vehicle replacement account. The fire district sets aside money each year in the fund to save up to replace aging apparatus. This new engine replaces a 2006 model that will now be retired from front-line use to become a reserve engine.

Fire District 1 is the largest provider of fire and emergency medical services in Snohomish County, with full-time staffing at 12 fire stations. The department serves nearly 200,000 residents in unincorporated south Snohomish County, Brier, Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace.
