Fire causes $400,000 damage, displaces 3 residents from Silver Lake area home

Post Date:09/13/2017 4:45 PM
fire 9-13-17A two-alarm fire caused more than $400,000 damage to a home in unincorporated Everett east of Silver Lake this morning.

A passerby called 911 at 11:42 a.m. to report large flames on the back side of a two-story house in the 2500 block of 124th Pl. SE. He also reported hearing smoke alarms sounding inside and no answer when he knocked on the door.

“The back of the house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Firefighters were able to search the home and determine no one was inside. Within the first 10 minutes, the fire burst through the roof. With the threat of a structural collapse, firefighters had to withdraw from the house and attack the fire from the outside,” said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for Snohomish County Fire District 1.

Firefighters from Fire Districts 1 and 7, Everett and Lynnwood responded and had the fire under control in about 30 minutes. No one was injured.

Investigators from the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office determined this was an accidental fire that started in the landscaping bark, then spread to the back deck and the rest of the house. Damage is extensive and the house is uninhabitable. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents – two women and a man.
