Snohomish County Fire District 1 shares key administrative staff with the Lynnwood Fire Department. The cost-saving arrangement became official in July 2016.
Interim Fire Chief Brad Reading leads the blended management team, serving as chief for the city fire department as well as Fire District 1.
The combined administration is jointly managing operations, emergency medical services, training, public education and working collaboratively on fire marshal issues.
Both fire agencies maintain separate budgets, payrolls and purchasing. Hiring, promoting, daily staffing levels, labor negotiations and discipline issues also remain separate.
Neither the city nor the fire district receives monetary compensation under the agreement.
