Important Updates:

Snohomish County Fire District 1 and the Lynnwood Fire Department consolidated on Oct. 1 to become South Snohomish County Fire & Rescue.

This website will be in transition during October to become the website for the new department. Pages should have full functionality during the transition, but some pages may still carry the Fire District 1 name until an update is complete.

If you have any issues with website use during the transition, please contact Leslie Hynes, 425-551-1243.

MedicsFor many years, the fire service here and across the nation has been the primary provider of emergency medical services (EMS). Our nationally acclaimed EMS program has been leading the way with innovations to improve our response and patient care.

About 80 percent of our calls are for medical aid. All firefighters are certified as either Emergency Medical Technicians or Paramedics. Paramedics – who are trained to provide care in the most serious medical emergencies – are stationed at neighborhood fire stations throughout southwest Snohomish County. That means our community receives the highest level of care within in minutes.

Medic units based at neighborhood fire stations are supplemented by two Peak Activity Units, which operate during the day when call volumes are at their highest. This makes efficient use of resources to maintain low response times throughout our service area.

excellence awardOur first responders working in the field are also supported by a medical services officer on duty around the clock. We are the only fire agency in the county with a 24-hour medical services officer to enhance patient care.

Our cardiac arrest survival rate is one of the best in the nation with a running annual average of 60 percent (measured using internationally recognized Utstein standards), well above the national average of 20 percent.

We are continuing to explore and develop new ways to better serve our citizens. Our award-winning EMS checklists and our unique community paramedic program are serving as models for other departments across the country.
